CBSUA Libraries  celebrates 87th National Book Week 
with CBSUA Librarians’ Forum

In celebration of the 87th National Book Week with the theme “Outcomes, Outreach, Outstanding: Libraries Beyond Boundaries,” the CBSUA Libraries sponsored a forum entitled CBSUA Librarians’ Forum. This was held last November 26, 2021, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon via zoom. The event aimed to share knowledge on the different webinars and training attended by the librarians in the previous months. For the first time, it goes beyond the corners of the university. It was attended by BLIS students from Bicol College, library personnel, and other guests via zoom.

Mr. Danjovert Rana gave a rationale to set the expectations of the entire event.

The welcome remarks were given by Dr. Ana E. Miraña, Vice President for Academic Affairs. After that, the topic on “False Information and Fake News: How the Youth Judge Information Quality” was discussed by the first speaker, Mr. Lowell P. Francisco, College Librarian I, CBSUA Calabanga Campus. He was followed by Ms. Rita D. Alarcon, Campus Librarian, CBSUA Pasacao Campus, on the topic “Lockdown but Not Locked Out: DOST STII Library Supports Student’s Learning at Home. Dr. Rolando P. Oloteo, University Librarian, CBSUA Pili Campus, served as the third speaker about Fueling Flexible Learning with Live and Living Libraries. Ms. Dolores C. Perez succeeded him, College Librarian I, CBSUA Sipocot Campus, on her topic “ Academic Library’s User Engagement on Facebook in the New Normal: A Mixed-Method. Last but not least presenter, was Ms. Rowena R. Manaog, College Librarian I, CBSUA Pili Campus, regarding “Opportunities and Threats in Philippine Librarianship in the Time of COVID-19.

After all the topics had been delivered, Ms. Ester T. Listor, Chief Librarian, Bicol College, Daraga, Albay served as reactor and has given her valuable insights about the topics presented, where she cited that the discussions are very timely and relevant to present scenarios which would be helpful in libraries. She also emphasized that “Life must go on,” although we face this difficulty in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Oloteo, University Librarian, gave the closing remarks. He was very grateful for the continued support given by the administration. He also thanked the speakers, the reactor, the BLIS students, Mr. Geofrey M. Almazar of CBSUA-Calabanga Campus, who served as the emcee, and the library personnel who worked so well to make the event successful.
