Zonal Public Consultation on the Minimum Requirements for Libraries of HEIs Common to All Programs held at CHED Central
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Central Office called a public consultation to the Head of Libraries in HEIs all over the country to present the Proposed Minimum Requirements the Minimum Requirements for Libraries of HEIs Common to All Programs. �The Regions IV, V and MIMAROPA are scheduled on May 18. 2017 at the CHED Central office. The highlights of the forum are the following: Mrs. Corazon Nera, Member of the Technical Committee for Library and Information Science acknowledged the officials of CHED, Technical Committee Panel, and the participants by regions. Dr. Amelia A. Biglete, CHED -Director IV, Office of Programs and Standards Development welcomed the participants and discuss relevant issues and concerns of libraries and CHED like the New General Education Curriculum (CMO No. 20 series 2013.) and other laws that affects the library holdings and services, such laws are: RA 10647- Ladderized education Act and RA 10650- Open Education Act. Mrs. Elizabeth Peralejo- Chairperson, Technical Committee for Library and Information Science presented the Proposed �Minimum Requirements for Libraries of Higher Education Institutions Common to All Programs�. After the presentation, Mrs Nera facilitated the open forum. Here are some of the significant queries/suggestions of the participants: The Continuing Professional Development� (CPD) of the librarians must be included in the proposal not only the librarians but the support staff shall have a financial support from the administration; In relation with the status of the librarians, it should be stated as librarians must have an academic rank or faculty status with the same compensation and benefits to faculty; The provision for the ratio of the number of students and librarians must have for the first 1,000 and below of student population, faculty and staff or a fraction thereof there must have 1 full time licensed librarian and 1 full time library assistant. And for every additional 3,000 population of students, faculty and staff must have 1 full time licensed librarian� and at least 2 full time support staff; �For library holdings; books below the ten years copyright should also be given a percentage as part of the collection; The core periodical collection composed local and foreign print and electronic shall be observed as follows: less than 1,000 students= 5o titles of periodicals 1001 to 3000 students � = 75 titles of periodicals Over 3,00 students = ��� 100 titles of periodicals The committee reminds the librarians that this proposal will be finalized after the consultation to librarians in the whole regions of the country and will be issued a CMO by the Commission of Higher Education. Each participant�s received certificate of participation and appearance.
